Along this journey, there are FOUR BIBLICAL MILEPOSTS:
PRAYING: Every church praying for lost people
“First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone . . . This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2:1, 3-4, HCSB).
What would happen if every Southern Baptist were to pray for lost people? Imagine the impact of our churches praying for every lost person. There would be a movement of God just as in the days of Acts when the Holy Spirit fell on the day of Pentecost.
ENGAGING: Every believer sharing as a trained witness
“Now everything is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation . . .Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ; certain that God is appealing through us, we plead on Christ’s behalf, ‘Be reconciled to God’” (2 Cor. 5:18, 20, HCSB).
Are you ready to engage personally in sharing your faith “as you go” about your daily business? Are you prepared to engage in witness training? Sometimes the training is new, sometimes it reminds us of what we already know and it provides accountability. Are you prepared to engage lost people with the gospel and network for evangelism?
Christ-followers must take personal responsibility for sharing Christ in their Jerusalem—across the street, around the block, to their friends, coworkers, and family if they are to fulfill the Great Commission. Others will be called to leave their comfort zones and cross significant geographical or cultural barriers to share Christ as missionaries.
SOWING: Every lost person receiving a witness
“For in this case the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps’” (John 4:37, HCSB).
To fulfill the Great Commission, we must sow down the gospel in North America. Our mission field is becoming increasingly secular and pluralistic. We cannot assume that people understand the concepts of God as the Creator, sin, the cross, and salvation through Christ. We must share the good news and the truth of Scripture in every way possible. We must reach our neighbors and the nations. We must sow among the people groups of North America and identify receptive people.
HARVESTING: Every church harvesting and celebrating every salvation response
“My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work,” Jesus told them. “Don’t you say, ‘There are still four more months, then comes the harvest’? Listen [to what] I’m telling you: Open your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ready for harvest. The reaper is already receiving pay and gathering fruit for eternal life, so the sower and reaper can rejoice together” (John 4:34-36, HCSB).
When we personally engage in the evangelism process and see our churches engaged, we will see a harvest in North America. We will need to give effective invitations to follow Christ through personal conversations where lost people are gathered. We must increase the opportunities for people to respond to the gospel.
What would happen if churches across North America held cutting-edge harvest events and ministries in a continent that has been prayed for and sown down with the gospel? Imagine churches consistently baptizing more people and seeing a spiritual awakening and church planting movement in North America.
