Heritage Hills exists for a reason. We believe that reason is found clearly in the God's Word, the Bible. Our purposes can be summarized in two scriptures from the book of Matthew. They are commonly called, "The Great Commandment," and "The Great Commission":

The Great Commandment

"Love the Lord Your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and prophets hang on these two commandments". Matthew 22:37-40

The Great Commission

"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you". Matthew 28:19-20

These scriptures give us the five core purposes for which the church was created:

  • Worship - True worship has nothing to do with a particular style or liturgy. It is, instead, a matter of the heart. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Mt 22:37). Read more.
  • Fellowship - Fellowship is communion with other believers in order to encourage one another's walk with the Lord. “Baptizing them” (Mt 28:19, identification with the Christian community).
  • Ministry - Ministry is a Christian using his or her spiritual gifts for the edification of the church and in service to a lost world. “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mt 22:39).
  • Discipleship - Discipleship requires a specific strategy to move a new believer from being a babe in Christ to a mature believer. “Teaching them to obey all that I command you” (Mt 28:20).
  • Evangelism - Sharing Christ with others is particularly important to the church that seeks true growth since healthy growth comes primarily through new Christians. A healthy church must provide its members both training and opportunity for evangelism. “Go therefore and make disciples” (Mt 28:19). Read more.

Coupled with these five purposes would be prayer. Prayer is drawing near to God through faith in quiet contemplation and with bold requests. Prayer should be fundamental to everything that happens at Heritage Hills!
